Thank you for your comment Elif. You are so right! That's what happened to me when I graduated. But now eventhough heads offer me higher levels I'll continue working with YLs since I never ever believe that I'll forget English as long as I improve myself. Every teacher needs to be a lifelong learner so If teachers who work with higher levels ignore the world out of their classes, and do nothing except teaching Reported Speech they'll forget English too...
Cheers

I believe in Turkey some teachers have many excuses for not to teach to young learners. Most common ones are "It is a very low level for me" or " If I teach to young learners I'll forget English". Also if you are an intern teacher, you go to a private school to hand in your CV and they straight away ask if the application is for only nursery classes. When you have an interview as an intern teacher, the interviewer asks how you are going to handle older classes, you are so young, so new in the profession blah blah blah. I think these kind of opinions (which imply newly qualified teachers can only teach young learners) by others (who are actually in a much higher position than newly qualified teachers) also shape Turkish language teachers' opinions about teaching to YLs.

Thank you for your comment Nihal! It is good to see that I am not the only person who thinks in that way. However as you said It is very sad to hear teachers' fears about teaching YLs.
I appreciate your support.
Cheers :)

Thanks a lot for your support Merve! Means a lot. :)
As a teacher of a global language we should experience all levels of students I think. We shouldn't be afraid of trying new things.

I see those kind of teachers in action who are teaching young learners and as you say who are 'afraid of becoming a child again'. That's just so sad. And then they say teaching yl is tiring. In my opinion, yes it is tiring but not because you spend a lot of effort but because you don't become one of them. If you do, it all gets easier, you have fun with them and you don't feel that tired.. Keep your enthusiasm!

Very nice post Busem. Good to see you are not afraid of becoming a child again:)) Or feelings are mutual my dear. Besides, teaching young learners teaches lots and nothing can take its place.
Let's hope to spread the word: Fear not!
:)
Best

It is refreshing and motivating, isn't it? Loved reading your reflection about it Busem. And I really loved meeting you there, face to face :-) As they say, tweeting is great, but meeting people face to face and putting a body and soul behind the tweets and posts makes it real :-)

Hope to meet you again soon!
